So I guess Favre is now officially traded to the Jets?!?! What does our resident Jets fan think of this???

Jets are legit now. I know I've badmouthed them in the past but I can see them being a 9 or even 10 win wild card.

I don't think it's a good fit, and I honestly don't think Favre will do that well on the New York Jets football team. However I am glad to see Green Bay stick to their plan.

Maybe. Didn't Drago say he couldn't decide if he was for it or against it? I think he'd be against it since Matt's always talking about having young teams and not going after an aging star.
I find it somewhat funny the trade was a 4th round pick (that could be moved up to a 3rd, 2nd, and 1st round depending on play). We don't know the conditions but I would imagine Favre would have to have his best season ever in order for that to move up to 2nd or 1st round. I wish Reynolds wasn't banned so I could hear how Favre somehow is worth a 1st round pick for whatever reason.

There is no way they go to the superbowl, but it works out to be a nice deal for the Packers if they get a wild card spot and Favre takes 70% of the snaps, because we know how good Thompson has been with the draft

I will come accross as a total homer i'm sure, but i thought they were a 10 win team with penny or kellen. with brett they are looking at 10 to 12 wins.
The team is built with good linebackers, a very good oline, good to great receivers and now a QB that can stretch the field. I thought this last year, the jets look just like the packers minus Tauscher and Harris. What they lack at tackle they beat the packers at safety and TE.
I think they can make a run at the east, although I still think Favre is overrated, he is wayyyy better than either Jets' QB's as of yesterday.
Re: You've got to be kidding me!!!!!--The Brett Favre to the Jets Thread
I think 12 wins is a bit optimistic, because the NFL is so grueling. But I can see them being a 10 win team if Favre gels with the offense right away. And that is nothing to be ashamed of, considering the product they put out last year.

I'm going off of what you said earlier, but if they do give up a 1st or 2nd that would mean they had gone deep into the playoffs. I know you guys all think the jets suck but their o and d line are really quite good. Pennington lost 3 games last year by throwing pick 6's in the final five minutes of the game.
I realize favre has that same ability but when the jets went to the playoffs and almost beat the steelers, penny put up 3 points. Special teams and defense supplied the other 14, and they still almost won. Their defense is what has always made this team, there is only so much you can do with a game manager like Penny in there.
Brett is no peyton manning but at least he can get the ball to a receiver on an out route and stretch the field. Even if he is the reason the jets get bounced from the playoffs, at least they go into that game with a chance. Unlike when Penny or Kellen were going to be the starters.
I'll say it again, Favre is overrated, but he is light years ahead of Kellen and penny.
Also keep in mind who they play this year...
Dolphins *2
49ers
rams
cardinals
seahawks (mildly tough, but i think it is in NY)
Bills *2 (we usually split this game)
Favre has always been able to beat the shitty teams, i hope it continues.

it's a good thing you ddin't call me last night. Had you called me, i woudln't have slept at all and kept jessi up telling her useless stats about the Jets and what Brett does for Cothery, Coles and Keller.
Re: You've got to be kidding me!!!!!--The Brett Favre to the Jets Thread
Yeah I think that is a good analysis. And don't get me wrong, I think this trade improves them immensely for this year. However, I don't see 12 wins being a possibility. If they lose to San Diego and to New England twice, that means they can only lose one other game the entire season. I think we forget how difficult it is to win that many games because of the recent Indy and New England regular season dominance.
I see them as being a viable playoff contender though. Which most fans should be happy about after the crapfest they had last year

yeah, you are right about the new england problem and then San Diego. One thing is, i'm not high on san diego. It's just a matter of time for LT to hit a wall but before that happens Norv will turn that team back to oblivian before anything else happens.
Anyone else notice the difference between that defense on roids and off? When merriman got busted and came back, he is no where near the same player.

The jets have always been my favorite AFC team, so it should at least make it exciting for me to watch. It would be nice to see the Patriots actually have to compete a few times a year

Ok, i'm a homer. got it? good...with that said...
Through preseason reports, Kris Jenkins (from carolina) is looking trim and is stuffing the middle as a man of 340 pounds is supposed to do. Apparently he is dominating at his role. I have heard his interviews countless times and he is thrilled to be the plug of their defense.
Calvin Pace - newly signed and overpaid FA from Arizona. He's not an edge rusher but is a very good run stuffer and has great strength.
Vernon Gholston - Rookie, #6 overall - I don't place faith in a rookie but when his skill is edge rushing and the jets have two OLBers in front of him, you know he'll be getting in there on situational downs and be told to do his job. Which is his specialty, throw the QB to the turf. He's the only player all of last year to beat Jake Long for a sack and although the sack was just one play, Gholston mopped the floor with Long all game long, making the QB roll out and roll away from VG's side.
David Harris - second year player - 5 sacks in 9 games, 101 tackles. If anyone thinks losing Vilma was a problem, it's not. Harris is a pure MLBer. When he hits the running back, the back is stopped dead in his tracks, unlike Vilma who got dragged for 5 more yards on contact. Harris will be making a serious bid for the pro bowl this season. If you think i'm being a homer on this, you are mistaken, watch him play before you say anything negative about this particular player.
Kerry Rhodes - top 3 safety in the AFC, and that is no exaggeration.
Darelle Revis - had a similar rookie year as Chris McAllister. They are pretty good mirrors of one another, in terms of playing style.
Allan Faneca - FA from pittsburgh. First ballott HOFer place between the two young guns in Nick Mangold and Brick. Mangold is sure to benefit the most from this arrival, watch the jets last year they not only had a terrible LG, they had a LG that should not have been, and is no longer in the NFL.
The team was built for a 9 win season before Favre. Depending on Favre's gelling with the offense I still maintain a 10 to 12 win season.

just wait for the season, if brett can play game manager, as he did last season, he'll be able to lead them to a very nice record and give them a chance (something penny never did) in the playoffs.
Re: You've got to be kidding me!!!!!--The Brett Favre to the Jets Thread
I'm very curious to see what happens, but I will stick with my "Favre is going downhill" thoughts, and I just dont' think he'll pull through for your Jets. But once again, we will see. Nice to see you're pretty damn excited, though.

I still think you are insane for mentioning 12 wins for a team that is in the same division as the Patriots and won 4 games last year
but, I guess they might put me in my place huh

every year someone has a huge turnaround. I'm not betting my house on 12, but i wouldn't be taken aback if the jets can throw together 2 four game win streaks aginst the likes of the NFC West (the NFL's version of JV).
Any team that can stop the run and run the ball will be sniffing playoffs. Any team that has both of those with solid playmaking ability, well you don't really know where they'll fall. It was just last year that Eli Manning beat the 18 and 0 Patriots, strange things happen in the NFL.
10 to 12 wins is still the bet.
Re: You've got to be kidding me!!!!!--The Brett Favre to the Jets Thread
how many teams have had an 8 win turnaround in one season in the past 20 years?
I'm honestly just curious.

I'll get back to you on that, the best turnarounds most recently have been (from memory)...
07 packers (4 to 12)
06 Saints
06 jets (4 to 10 wins)
06 bears (4 to 11 wins)
03 pats (9 to 14)
those are the biggest ones i can remember

I'll definitely be rooting for them to win as many as possible. However, I'd be estatic if they win 10 games. a 6 game turnaround in the AFC is pretty awesome in my opinion.

Re: You've got to be kidding me!!!!!--The Brett Favre to the Jets Thread
I still contend the AFC is much weaker than we want to admit. The Chargers are slowing down (no roids and an old LT), the Patriots are always going to be around 12 wins, the colts looked like a shell of their former selves without Harrison opposite Wayne, Jax is good, but they can't defend the pass, the steelers o-line is in turmoil and lost to the jets last year. The Ravens still do not have a QB and Lewis is old, the Browns and Bengals are identical teams, all offense, no defense, although i picked the browns to win their division. The Texans look like an up and coming team.
I just don't see the pure powerhouses anymore.

Re: You've got to be kidding me!!!!!--The Brett Favre to the Jets Thread
i don't believe they will have a 12 win season. i love favre and it would be huge on his career if he makes a 4-12 team into a 10-6.
