Cutler to Lions Empty Cutler to Lions

Post by RCBooba Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:23 am

It's been rumored that Jay Cutler, unhappy in Denver, has asked for a trade. The Lions are considered to be one of the 3-4 teams interested in him. I don't know what to think of this. He's shown to be a good qb, but I don't know if he's going to be worth the asking price, whatever that might be. Thoughts?

Anything is worth a try for the Lions. When you're at rock bottom, I don't think you can worry about possible down sides. No one in the North cares about or pays attention to them, which Detroit should take as a sign that the wheels are off the wagon and something drastic needs to be done.

dude, if it costs them a first overall and that's it...do it!!! You'll save millions in cap space on paying an un-known player AND you will have an all pro QB. If the new regime goes offensive line throught this draft, they'll keep him safe, also giving him a decent RB and a great WR to work with.

The Lions should really consider this.

Drago makes a good point. If it takes the first rounder, do it for sure. Chances are a pick would not measure up to Cutler (this is especially valid for the Lions, who are completely inept at picking talent). Then use EVERY pick left on OL.

i heard that cutler would be worth a 1st this year a 2nd and 3rd next year. i don't think the first overall pick that the lions have would do it.

Normally I would be first in line to criticize you but this time I think you are close to being correct. Did you recently learn the art of reading?

Do any of you think that Cutler is worth that much? I would say that the first overall, plus a 2nd and 3rd next year is pretty steep for him. If it were a later 1st rounder I could see adding a 3rd next year, but I certainly wouldn't give up 3 picks. He's a good QB, but not nearly good enough to deplete the next two years' draft depth.

I don't think he is worth those picks if you are calling for the number one overall. On the flip side, with as spotty as QB development has been and knowing that Cutler has already made a pro bowl, been on the number 2 scoring offense in the NFL, and had less of a receiving corps than a team like the Lions...well...i dont know, he might be worth it.

They say a 1st next year is worth a second this year, so you can almost say a 1st this year with a 2nd and 3rd next year is like giving up two 1st's and a 2nd this year. That...is far too much to ask, even for a known entitiy. It's not like the Lions are Jay Cutler away from making the playoffs either. They need to be thinking linemen and attaining as many draft picks as possible, not trading for a guy like Cutler where he'll end up being more like David Carr behind that swiss-cheese line.
