Jets Vs Chargers (write up)
New York JETS vs. San Diego Chargers
Breaking It Down
The Ravens win over the Patriots means Gang Green will travel to San Diego to face off with a red hot Charger team. The Chargers are playing at an elite level with stellar play from Phillip Rivers. They are currently riding an 11 game win streak and has dominated most teams they've faced this year. Ending the season as AFC West Champs with a record of 13-3, the San Diego Chargers have an explosive offense with several deep play threats. Based on the numbers, this match up will be the irresistible force versus an immovable object. High powered offense versus the stingy defense.

Darrelle Revis versus Vincent Jackson [or the Field]:
Darrelle Revis has shut down every receiver he's faced this season. The Matchup of Darrelle Revis versus Vincent Jackson will change the game as Revis can take an entire side of the field away. Andre Johnson & Steve Smith were the most physical WRs Revis has faced all season. Vincent Jackson is similar in play and 3 inches taller than Johnson. Vincent Jackson is a freakish player who is also explosive, but Andre Johnson he is not. Advantage: NYJ
Thomas Jones+ Shonn Greene versus Ladainian Tomlinson + Darren Sproles:
The JETS have the best rushing offense in the NFL, noone does it better. Ladainian Tomlinson is coming off a season where he was featured as a goal line back more than an every down back. He did not break the 1000 yard rushing mark this season and though he has 14 touchdowns has had a somewhat disappointing season. The JETS have a vaunted run defense that averages 88.1 yds per game. The JETS should be successful shutting down Sproles & Tomlinson if they stuff the run at the line of scrimmage and prepare themselves for screen passes to Sproles. Advantage: NYJ
Gates, Floyd, Jackson versus the JETS Secondary:
The WRs are all 6'4" or taller. The tallest player in the JETS secondary is Kerry Rhodes. Rhodes v. Gates will be the match up to watch for in the middle of the field. Rhodes will have to step up and play physical football with Antonio Gates. Jim Leonhard will most likely be assigned to help Lito Sheppard which will put the pressure on Rhodes to step up. If he does not, we will get toasted over the middle. The inujury status of Lowery, Coleman and Strickland will be important to our success. A wildcard might be James Ihedigbo.Advantage: SD
JETS O-Line versus SD D-Line/Linebackers:
The JETS have the #2 ranked O-line is the NFL. With 3 Probowlers, they are a beast with the running game and creating holes for our Running Backs. The Chargers D-Line has been by committee all year. They have a rotation of Louis Castillo, Jaques Cesaire, Ogemdi Nwagbuo, Alfonso Boone. They are good but they arent stellar. They have an inability to stop the run as they give up 117.9 rush yards per game. Advantage: NYJ
JETS D-Line/Linebackers versus Chargers O-Line:
With the loss of Kris Jenkins early in the season, the overwhelming belief was that the JETS run defense would suffer. Surprisingly the JETS run defense has better numbers sans Jenkins as we have the #7 ranked defense against the run. The Chargers line backers consisting of Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips,Stephen Cooper have had a decent year but not stellar. Shawne Merriman is hobbled with a heel injury. The JETS are highest blitzing team in the NFL, but they MUST hit home with those blitzes. Phillip Rivers will tear them apart if they fail to make contact. Advantage: NYJ
Phillip Rivers versus Mark Sanchez:
Phillip Rivers is having a phenomenal year with 28 touchdowns to only 9 interceptions. He is arguably the best deep ball thrower in the NFL, but gets flustered and loses his temper and patience when he gets hit. The JETS defense will have to hit him in the mouth early and often. A flustered Phillip Rivers will be prone to making mistakes and the JETS have to capitalize. Mark Sanchez has played better down the stretch, going 3 games without a turnover. He is still a rookie and this is an even bigger stage than the wildcard round. I loved the poise and moxy I saw from Sanchez against the Bengals and he will have to do more of the same to be successful. He will have to protect the ball but not be afraid to make some throws. The O-Line will have to step up and give him time to throw the ball. Be weary of Antonio Cromartie, and Quentin Jammer, they are no Darrelle Revis but they are ball hawks. QB Advantage: SD
Please add anything you like and discuss the game accordingly.

Re: Jets Vs Chargers (write up)
I'm not going to take the time to break anything down, but, while I believe Revis will do a good job against Vincent Jackson, the Chargers' other receivers are pretty decent and athletic, giving the Jets some problems. SD is on such a role it's hard to see the Jets beating them, but they also might have the best chance since they have such a great defense and are just a black and blue bruising type of team.

Jets run all over the Chargers owning the clock. Sanchez has three interceptions on four passes. Jets still win.

Okay, Sanchez needs to throw over 100 yards for them to beat the Colts. I'm just sayin.

Re: Jets Vs Chargers (write up)
His numbers are bad to look at but when you watch him, he does a nice job of being accurate on some difficult passes. Had Edwards caught that TD bomb against the Bengals, his numbers would look just fine for the playoffs.
I would have liked for him to do a little bit more against a soft Charger secondary but the Colts are even worse. They gave up 20 catches to brandon marshall and other big games to other guys. I know the Jets don't have a super star wide out but they should have enough to move the ball.
I think the Chargers were better than the colts, to me, this looks like a better match up but the Jets are going to need a lot of good breaks.

Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to shoot himself last night? The bullet was wide right.
Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to swallow a bottle of sleeping pills last night? He choked on the first three.
Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to throw himself into a volcano yesterday? He was going to take a flight to Hawaii, but he missed it.
