Waukesha North Soccer Preview 2008
In 2007 the Waukesha North Men's team had some major growing pains. After losing their leading goal scorer in Tony Kitterman, and their lone quality defender in Tyler Vaughan in 2006, along with countless other seniors, they had some major holes to fill.
North's started the 2007 season pretty well, not well enough to get wins, but well enough to see a reason for hope. They played 3 schools that were ranked in the top ten in the state in their first 4 games, losing all 4 by a combined 5 goals. In their home opener against DePeier they had a 1-0 lead through 70 minutes of play and looked to be on pace for the win. In the 71st minute center defender, Andrew Garcia (Junior) went down with an ankle injury and it was all downhill from there. DePeier put away 2 goals in 5 minutes, nearly scoring a 3rd, coming away with the victory.
North never seemed to recover from this game and seemed to sleep walk through the rest of the season without much effort.
2008 should have a lot more desirable outcomes in that they are returning all but three starters; Andy Graves, Randy Wesley, and Michael Beck. Although these three did make up the corps of the team, they will be replaced by younger and perhaps hungrier players.
Look for north to start the season by playing a man marking system in the back with Andrew Garcia, or James Rosenwald as the sweeper. There is no reason to expect very tight marking, as this has not been the foundation of North soccer for years. Their midfield should be their strongest units, with Travis Kleven and Paul Dynis both looking for break out years.
By far, the best player on the team is their senior forward Ryan Szecsy. He has an explosive shot, and a decent work rate, look for Szecsy to score around 10 goals, it would be more if he had any help in the attacking third or if he weren't going to be demanding double teams every game.
After scoring only one conference goal last year, I don't see much in signs for improvement, aside from the younger players having another year of experience. I look for North to win 2 conference games and keep a few others very close.
Overall record: 6 wins, 12 losses, first round exit from the WIAA tournament

Funny that you write about North. Of all the schools in that conference, North is the first you write about? Drago, you worked there for a while didn't you? Stop telling your friends to do your bidding, step up.
