Thursday night game
WOW that was sick. did anyone see that?? it was amazing.
i know that booba is going to say that favre still sucks, but i was creaming in my pants when he drove down the field in OT (and pretty much the whole game) and scoring the winning FG. he wins when it counts

He did have a nice game. I think Favre was given a great game plan to keep his throws under control and not take any unnecessary INT's. If he keeps this style going, the jets will be a very tough out come playoff time.

Re: Thursday night game
Yes Favre had a good game, and yes I wish he would have lost (sorry Carter), but isn't this what I've been saying??? Favre is good when he is not Favre; when the game plan is to control the game, shorter throws, don't press anything. To me, Favre is Favre when he tries to improvise and force things, resulting in all those interceptions.

A lot of players are like that. Most players, especially in the NFL, think they are super man and cannot be touched. Favre is no exception.

Re: Thursday night game
That although favre has the most INT's in a career he still has some astounding numbers without the luxury of a Jerriy Rice, Marvin Harrison or whomever else.
He's solid, there are better QB's but he's just a solid player. Unless it's playoff time in the winter.

I can't argue the fact that he's not an above-average qb, and I know I come off as saying "he's the worst qb ever". My main point is that he is not the best ever (which I hear way too much) nor is he in the top 5 best qbs in my opinion. But yes, he is solid in most areas.

Favre's
Career TD's: 460
Career INT's: 300 (and counting )
Ratio: 12:7 (about)
In his Prime:
1994:
33 TD's
14 Ints 3 lost fumbles
3,800 yards
1995
38 TD's
13 Ints 4 lost fumbles
4,400 yards
1996
39 TD's
13 Ints 4 lost fumbles
3,800 yards
1997
35 TD's
14 Ints 4 lost fumbles
3,800 yards
1998
31 TD's
23 Ints 2 fumlbles lost
4,200 yards
As a nice team stat goes, he had one losing season in his entire career.
Joe Montana (Prime)
Total TD's 273
Total Int's 139
Ratio of about 2:1
1983
TD's 26
Ints 12 (didn't keep track of fumbles lost back then i guess...)
Yards: 3,900
1984
TD's 28
Int's 10
Yards: 3,600
1985
TD's 27
Int's 13
Yards 3,650
1986
TD's 8
Ints 9
Yards: 2,200
1987
TD's 31
INT's 12
Yards 3,000
My point is. Montana is generally regraded as the best QB to ever play the game. Although favre threw more picks he was also asked to play without rice and asked to throw for more yards every year.
My arguement is that the numbers are comparable and that Favre is a top 5 QB all time (not anymore mind you, just all time), despite his interceptions.

Re: Thursday night game
Favre - 1 superbowl
Montana - 4 superbowls
And please don't tell me that doesn't make a difference in terms of where they rank all time. It should not be the only factor, but it should also not be discounted.
Also, it's not accurate to only compare their prime years. If I took Favre's prime years against Kurt Warner's prime years Warner would most likely come off as the better quarterback. I believe you need to compare their entire careers.

Re: Thursday night game
I only did their primes because i didn't want to do every season. I figured it would discount outliers.
Favre had great teams in 96, 97 and 02. After that i think they were mostly average teams. I give him a ton of credit for making the playoffs as much as he did, although it's not a fare comparison with there being more playoff spots and the packers ALWAYS having one or two awful teams in their division each year.
It's a very difficult comparison but if i got to take any QB i wanted from day one in their career my list would probably go...
P Manning
Montana
S Young
T Brady
B Favre
J Unitas
J Namath
J Elway
Something like that at least. (BTW, i think Brady is massively overrated by having that defense behind him for his whole career but in the same light, he never had a top flight receiver until 07)

forgot about marino...put him just past favre but would think of them as both interchangeable. Also forgot about Staubach. Out of respect for my younger self, i would never choose a cowboy.
