Hello, my name is Ronald Reagan.....
and I'm here to offer my opinion on anything political. Or even anything that isn't political.
I'm hoping to start some good political discussions. There have already been a few, but it would be cool to have a new topic every few weeks and then we can weigh in on our different perspectives.
Is anyone up for this? And if so, what are the topics/subjects you want to discuss. I might write a short history (strictly factual) on each topic if people want a summary.
"How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin." (Reagan)

nice quote. As you know, i'm a swing voter but i really like economics. So Reagan has always intrigued me in that he was supposedly a genious(i suck at spelling) in this area.
I'd definatly read the write up, ollie might try to burn it but lets not base decision on a scrub from iowa.
Re: Hello, my name is Ronald Reagan.....
this is a borrowed summary just to get it started. i'll write up a piece when i'm not as busy as I am right now
Reaganomics refers to the economic policies promoted by United States President Ronald Reagan. The four pillars of Reagan's economic policy were to:
reduce the growth of government spending,
reduce marginal tax rates on income from labor and capital,
reduce government regulation of the economy,
control the money supply to reduce inflation.
In attempting to cut back on domestic spending while lowering taxes, Reagan's approach was a departure from his immediate predecessors.
Reagan became president during a period of high inflation and unemployment (commonly referred to as stagflation), which had largely abated by the time he left office. It continues to be a matter of debate to what extent this was caused by Reagan's fiscal policies and to what extent it was due to other factors, such as the inflation-fighting monetary policies of the Federal Reserve under Paul Volcker and a large decline in oil prices caused by the resolution of supply shocks in the Middle East. (Though it can be said that his policies of lowered regulations in the Oil business was one of the factors that reduced Oil Prices).
