My favorite to emerge and not only win a roster spot, but to also challenge Brandon Jackson (a player I like) and Ryan Grant for playing time is DeShawn Wynn.

Wynn has always been a physically talented and natural running back. What held DeShawn back was never anything below his neck, rather the space between his ears.

Mike McCarthy speaking last season heading into the finale against Detroit:

"DeShawn Wynn, he hasn't had a lot of opportunities this year, but when he has, I really like the way he's stepped up, particularly on special teams. He's doing some things he hasn't done a lot of in the past. He works extremely hard. Also with the opponent squad, a lot of that stuff sometimes goes unnoticed. But I think DeShawn Wynn is clearly an ascending player in our program. When he has had his limited opportunities he showed what he's capable of doing."

"He's just a young player that's developing. I've stood here before and said I'd play him in any situation. We put him in the fourth-and-one. That should tell you what we think about him."

DeShawn speaking on his rocky road as a Pro:

"It's definitely something that happens to a lot of people (getting released). I know a lot of guys on this team have been through that and practice squad and all of that, but you've just got to find a way to stay focused and keep working toward a goal every time you go out.

"One thing that helped me move up was how I was working on the practice squad and giving a good look. It gave the coaches confidence that they could move me up. When something is not working, you've got to change and that's what I did.”

DeShawn Wynn speaking last season heading into the finale against Detroit:

"It's just getting an opportunity and knowing that I am actually going to play. I'm just very excited about that. The last game is what the coaches are going to remember you by for the most part and how you finish up, and I definitely want to leave a good impression."

How did Wynn do against Detroit?

Running backs Ryan Grant and DeShawn Wynn rushed for 106 yards each, with Grant using 19 carries and Wynn just 7, becoming only the second Packers tandem in history to post 100 yards rushing in the same game. The career high for Wynn and the duo helped Green Bay pile up 211 yards on 27 carries (7.8 avg.) for the afternoon.

Before people assume that this was all in garbage time, it was not.

The Packers jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind Wynn's 73-yard touchdown run on a third-down toss sweep. DeShawn ended the day with 7 carries for 106 yards rushing for a 15.1 average and a touchdown. He added a catch in his only opportunity for a 16 yard gain and a 1st down.

We have three talented young backs pushing each other, with Lumpkins and Sutton doing everything they can to break through and join the battle.

This competition should be fun to watch, and the results should show a significantly improved running game.

I have never liked his running style, I hope Wynn does take the number two roll.
