Falcons Interested In Trading For Gonzalez
The Atlanta Falcons are “seriously considering” trading for veteran Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez, according to our own Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post.
Lombardi reports that the Falcons may be willing to give up their second round draft pick (#55 overall) in order to obtain the services of Gonzalez.
The move makes sense as Justin Peelle, the Falcons top tight end target from 2008, caught only 15 passes for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns in 16 games last season.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez is coming off another Pro Bowl season in which he hauled in 96 receptions for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns.
More on this story as it develops.
That would be a nice signing. I think they should just draft one in this TE heavy draft but they may be trying to "win now" as they say.
Re: Falcons close to deal with Gonzo
this seems like a good trade for both teams but I dont think Gonzalez would do it. The falcons really aren't all that much better than the chiefs.

Wasn't the Falcon's tight end not receiving balls more of a progression problem on the part of a new qb? I'm just curious how many dropped passes he had.. or if he just wasn't thrown to.

If you are thinking of Alge Crumpler, he was cut last year and signed with the Titans. He was pretty solid in his day but that position tends to age pretty quickly if your name isn't Shannon Sharpe or Tony Gonzalez. Last year they had Justin Hartstock...he's a blocker and that's about it.

In what world does 2-14 look better than 11-5. In this world, are there free cookies?

Well the falcons did have something like the 31st hardest schedule in the league.

I don't think that stat is accurate. They played in the NFC South, NFC North and AFC West. Not exactly world beaters but i'd be suprised if it was the 31st easiest.

Done deal...
This team just got very dangerous in a hurry.
Chiefs trade Gonzalez for 2010 draft pick
The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade perennial Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft.
Gonzalez had asked the Chiefs for a trade in March if the right deal came along. The only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, Gonzalez was usually double-teamed during Kansas City's 2-14 season but still caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He plans on playing at least one more season and possibly two.

Lets make the Falcon's the countries team.. down with the Cowboys!!
I really like some of the moves they have made. Whoever is running that organization needs a gold start and a pat on the back.

No kidding. In less than two years, they have replaced their all pro* QB, their head coach, running back, and a former all pro OLBer. Now they have an all pro RB, an all pro receiver, an all pro QB, a very nice second receiver (jenkins) and a third WR in Gonzo.
This team will be tough in 09.

Blah blah blah, Falcons, blah blah blah. After looking at a few of the mock drafts, I'm hoping that somehow the Ok State TE falls to the Packers in the second round. Very long shot, but I'm hoping.

You're right, but my crankiness can't be blamed on the rain. I'm just an ornery guy. Some people have smarts, others have good looks, I've got crotchety-ness.

Everyone and their mother's know the Jets and Packers will be swapping picks. When that happens, look for the Pack to blow their pick on BPA on a TE. They should really hold the 9th spot and grab the dude from BC...but you know when the Jets come calling to pick their second bust in as many years...Sanchez will be in green in white by the end of the day.
