Likes/Dislikes of Milwaukee
Since the city of Milwaukee is in the convos as much as it is, I was wondering, for those of you that either live or have lived in the Milwaukee area, what is is you like or dislike about it?

I've lived there for a bit. The main problem I see is that the government thinks ignoring a problem is the best means of a solution. They build their nice condos, spend on the quality of the roads but allow the urban sprawl to travel all the way into Wauwatosa. How long before it reaches Brookfield?
Chicago forced the poor's hand in tearing down the projects. What do you know? They all moved to the suburbs dropping property values in Northbrook, Evanston and Skokie. I'm not sure if this is what Chicago was trying to do but I could see something similar happening in Milwaukee.

Brewers dude! I do like the bigger cities, not New York big city, more like Milwaukee or Houston type cities. I think they are doing a great job of fixing up the east side and the dowtown area. I feel like the city only wants part of it to succeed and are willing to forefit the rest.
Which is our problem in the first place.

Re: Likes/Dislikes of Milwaukee
downtown milwaukee is awesome. The renovations have brought in great restaurants and other things to generate money. There are many cool things to do. To me its exciting to see bars open up that don't look like they are cookie-cutter establishments. I really like some of the condo developments, and I hope that Milwaukee will continue to develop with the times.
but if you really want to see something, head a bit north of downtown and you'll see entire neighborhoods where nobody is working. But luckily we do pay most of these fine citizens $1,100 a month so they can afford all the liquor and cigarettes they need to be entertained, with some extra left over to go to Potawatomi. Its like France on a Friday, except that the French actually work the other 4 days.
I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Nothing like multpile days off or having your life be a vacation. 1,100 doesn't seem like much but when you can sleep until noon and buy a 10 Old English 40
s for 10 bucks, well, that just sounds like a great day!

and then after all the cash is blown on booze, you can then line up for the extra food stamps they are giving away in the city because of flood damages, even if you don't live in a flood damaged area!! and then when people start getting turned away because all of the people trying to cheat the system, the riots can begin!!
hey i'm not bitter about our city at all
as an aside, i haven't had OE in a long time. might have to pick one up soon.

i didn't know about the extra food stamps for the flooding. Good lord, people need to get a job...they might find they'd get in less trouble if they actually had a purpose in life.

This all happened because one of the FEMA offices accidentally leaked out the information that this was happening. So what ended up taking place was a ton of black people who were completely unaffected by the floods lined up at 5 in the morning for the opportunity for more free stuff, and the people who actually qualified for this program showed up at 9:00 am (opening time) and they were already running out of supplies because of the mass of people took advantage of the situation.
People really piss me off sometime.
But as far as what I like about MIlwaukee, I forgot to mention how awesome the different ethnic festivals are. I'm heading to Festa Italiana this weekend, and Irish fest later this summer. The Summerfest grounds are a great place to throw these events.

Re: Likes/Dislikes of Milwaukee
that's insane. I didn't know any of that.
The problem with giving anything away is that you always have peopel taking advantage. I just don't get it, i mean i like free stuff and i loved free stuff in high school but at some point i started taking pride in looking after myself and making decisons based on what benefits me.
These people are not making decisions, the governement is. Once that decsion is in they just try to cheat their way to what the may deam 'success'. Makes me sick. Tons of people lost a lot of money on these damned floods and you have the vultures already circling.
What bothers me most is i had to cut a check for $4,500 in property tax that may as well have gone to pay for a bunch of people that refuse to be accountable to themselves.
It takes me a long time to make $4,500, pisses me off to no end.

I know that nothing pisses you off more than your property taxes, but only a small percentage of those (if any) goes towards social welfare. Property taxes are mostly allocated to roads/fire dept/police/ etc. Whether those funds are spent wisely is a topic for a new debate however.

speaking of things we like in milwaukee, is there anything better than sitting in the Miller Park lot with a few cold beers along with 40,000 fans. Miller Park is my favorite place in the city.

i agree with that. one of the main reasons i wanted to stay out on this side of the state was the brewers. I don't even go to that many games, but it's nice to know that on most days i could just get up and head out to the park with one of the best atmospheres in baseball.
great fans in milwaukee.
