Rise and Fall of the Third Reich Empty Rise and Fall of the Third Reich

While reading for this damn comprehensive exam, I've stumbled across a lot of criticism for William L. Shirer's book that I didn't know existed. I thought this might interest you, Drago. I guess when the book came out it was immensely popular with the public, but amongst historians it was looked down upon. Shirer was a journalist that worked outside the academia circle for one, and also they didn't like his focus on the Sonderweg, basically that Germany was destined to do what they did. Over the years historians have relented their attacks little by little, and acknowledge that the book is very interesting and a good read to get a broad history of Germany at that time. You still need to finish it one of these days, Drago.

I read that book a few years back. I can't remember anything about the historical content or value, but I can say that it wasn't a page turner for me. Is that the same experience Drago had?
