Re: Drinking age??
i wrote a paper on this in college. i think they shoudl drop it to 19, it keeps it out of high schools but allows graduates to use it at there will.
Or, take away the Birthdate aspect of it and have it be for High School graduates or 24 years old. It would give some people the drive necessary to finish school...even if it was just for drinking.

there shouldn't be a drinking age at all. If you can shoot a gun in a war, you should be able to drink. Its not like it stops anyone anyway, if you want to get drunk you can find stuff to drink!

I have no problem with people mature enough to handle military service drinking. I do have a problem with any 18 year old in America being able to have even more exposure to alcohol. And I drank more than anyone when I was that age, but it doesn't make it right.
Americans as a whole are unable to handle alcohol. Remember that there are some huge reasons why they changed it in the first place. If we could teach some responsibility to people, maybe we could eventually make it happen.

Re: Drinking age??
Teaching moderation would be nice. As you probably know, European countries drink at young ages and there isn't much of a problem. Part of the reason has to be public transportation is accessible and cheap to use. So an 18 year old is less likely to get behind the wheel of their own car (which they probably don't own anyway because most get their driver's liceneses at that age).
Funny thing about these gas prices, it may force small changes in a lot of strange aspects of the US. Something as unconnected as drinking could change if less and less 16 year olds have cars with the cost per mile being so high.
I don't like the high gas prices but i do find it interesting.

very astute that you pointed out Europe. They actually know how to handle alcohol because the parents and schools teach moderation. In the U.S. all we have are idiotic 19 year olds trying to drink as much as they can and brag about it. We were given a chance at a lower drinking age, and we failed. Maybe somewhere down the line it will happen again.
