Soup Question! Empty Soup Question!

Post by carter Fri Mar 27, 2009 7:12 pm

I've been making soup lately and have a question about using flour. If I were making a soup with:

2 Potatoes
2 carrots
1 Pound of pork
2 celery sticks
some mushrooms
1 onion
and
about 3 to 4 cups of water...

How much flour would i need to add to make it more like a paste? Maybe that isn't even the right ingredient. I'd like to learn how to make it a bit different and don't really no much about cooking in general.

Opinions please!

cover the pork in flour, brown on stove, add rest of items, cook it until the soup is thick as you want it

there's also arrowroot or something that will thicken it

best way to thicken a soup is to cook the water off of it

I was going to say corn starch too. You can also over cook the potatoes, to the point where they break up, then add the rest of your ingredients.

cpschult; you never struck me as a guy that spent time behind a stove? Good advice though, I will try the same.

Forget the flour, you are missing garlic! GARLIC!!! Also, beef broth. perhaps mushrooms as well.

Just get some Bisquick and follow those directions to make some dumplings on top. DUMPLINGS!

there wouldn't be much franklin left after that kind of procedure. Might want to hold off a bit, start with his ears at least.

That looks really good. I will pay you 5$ to make me one. It has to be as big as a football though.

are you making the bread too?

I imagine ripping the insides of a loaf of bread out to be kind of similar to ripping the insides of a baby out.

Keep me updated.
