Cutting LT
I read an article recently that covered the recent ordeal in San Diego about the Chargers considering what to do with LT. I know one person on here has been saying it'd be smart to trade LT a couple years ago, and I've always looked at it in a different way, that they shouldn't cut him. While I do agree now that maybe, for the best of the team, they should trade him, what the article discussed (and I agree) is that they should do it with full disclosure to him and not behind closed doors. Don't play the silent card, and at the very least be upfront to the player that has been the star of your team for the past 6 years. I would think the organization could do that at least.

Re: Cutting LT
It's a tough situation with LT, he is one of those guys you build a team around and when his time is done (or slowing) they have to be respectful to him as a player.
Who knows, they weren't too respectful with Brees a couple years back.

Re: Cutting LT
That's true, but Brees wasn't the face of the team. I'm not saying they handled Brees in the right manner, and actually got rid of him before he peaked. I have to accept the fact that LT is more than likely declining; if anything because of the past two injury-filled years. Hopefully they at least respect him and include him in the process. He's publicly stated that he wants to remain a Charger, that he loves the community, but has also said that he understands that it is a business and all he asks is for the organization to be honest with him.

Re: Cutting LT
They should have sold high when his value was through the roof. RB's can only take so many carries, looks like LT hit his mark.
Re: Cutting LT
I agree for two reasons: one, like you said, his value would've been much higher. Two, I think Turner would be a better back to have over Sproles.

Re: Cutting LT
Running backs digress once they hit a certain touch total. I used the number 2,500.
LaDanian Tomlinson:
Career Touches: 3,167
Career Average Yard per Rush: 4.4
Last season YPR: 3.8
After 2,500th touch: 4.8, 3.8
Emmitt Smith:
Career Touches: 4,924
Career average YPR: 4.2
Last season YPR: 2.8/3.5 (less than 50 carries in his final season)
After 2,500th touch: 3.7, 4.1, 4.2, 4.1, 3.9, 3.8, 2.8, 3.5
Barry Sanders:
Career Touches: 3,097
Career average YPR: 5.0
Last season YPR: 4.3
After 2,500th touch: 6.1, 4.3
Priest Holmes:
Career Touches: 2,119
Career Average YPR: 4.6
Last Season YPR: 3.0/3.8 (same as above)
After 2,500th Touch: Did not reach 2,500
Curtis Martin:
Career Touches: 4002
Career Average YPR: 4.0
Last Season YPR: 3.3
After 2,500th Touch: 4.0, 4.6 (rushing champion with 1,697 yards), 3.3
I would like to factor in age along with attempts because guys like Priest Holmes or Thomas Jones did not get used early in their career, where as Tomlinson did. I think a better number would be 2,900 touches but I'm not going to do this again.

Re: Cutting LT
Ollie, the fact that you would even insinuate that Barry Sanders was digressing is sacrilegious. Gods don't deteriorate.

call yourself lucky for never getting to see the man slip into oblivion. It's rough watching your favorite players hit a wall and stop being effective.
My guy was Eddie George. Didn't like seeing him slow down at all.

Re: Cutting LT
That is true. It's somewhat of a mixed blessing that he retired when he did. And yeah...Eddie George in his prime vs. when he was with Dallas...just not good. Sucks to get old.
