Awards???

Post by drago on Fri Jul 03, 2009 2:54 pm

Should we do this? I'll post a couple threads with a few nominations. If we get more than 5 votes for the winner, I'll give that person a personal hug and send Klugie over for a hang out session on a friday night.

What say you Tigers? Team awards...sweet? or lamer than a McCabe pick up line?

--oh yeah...and don't just vote like a coward, throw a post up as to why you voted that way. This site is for shits and giggles, if you are concerned that I might someday make a dollar on it...rest assured, i make nothing. As Powder as my whitness, i will be broke whether you post or not. honestly our line-up changed so much from game-to-game, it'd be hard to pick an MVP. Seemed like everyone had good games, and then ones where it was hard to tell they were even out there. I thought the defense was outstanding with a healthy Garrett and Drago back there.
my nominees:
DPOY - Garrett, Drago
OPOY - could be any one of 7 people (no consistency)
Kalman Award - Kalman(naturally)

Awards named after a person really need a definition. I take it Kalman is the Gene Simmons look-a-like and think this award has some serious potential. Give it to your most feminine player, I think Lovejoy is on to something.

The Kalman Award would would most resemble a FAIL Award.
-For attempting bicycles and over-head kicks and making no contact with the ball.
-For missing 4 one-on-goalie breakaways in one game.
that kind of stuff.

Also, I think we should have a Sniped Award.(may need a different name)
-For a player that fell the most, on his own, with no contact at all.

Most of the players that I'd nominate for these awards only played in 1/2 the games and therefor I question a nomination. But there werent too many people that played in over 1/2 the games.

Those are some damn fine ideas. We may need to save the Kalman Award and Sniped Award for when we have picture or video evidence of said failures. When we play Carroll, I will ask Tictac to video tape it for us...i will then scan the game (shouldn't take more than a minute) to find the most embarassing moment for an individual and make that the new site frontpage.

Kalman, soon you will be famous. Wink

When is that carroll thing by the way? My groin is all healed up and I'm ready to go again. Man it would have been great to have playoffs this weekend or next, but we won't even get into that one.

Best Shoe Collection? I havent seen all your boots, Bomber, but if the total cost doesnt exceed $1,000 then I dont how it could beat Kalman's.
Otherwise: "Killer boots, man!"

I'm pretty sure I'm in the running for this. I have three different pairs of vapors in my bag and a pair of predators!

I'm saving that message fore when I schedule a game with Palermo (at Shorewood HS) in a couple weeks. But it looks like the Carroll game will be on September 13th at about 1pm. The date and time are still open to change but I am pretty confident they will stay the same.

I hope you humans are ready for the camp coming up. I'll send a message about that in a week to let you all know what's going down...pretty simple stuff.

Also drago, any chance of you making a sticky of practice schedule(when we can go out to carroll) and upcoming stuff. That way you can just change info in there but don't have to looking through all the spam to find it. ^^;

Also, the Mon/Wed/Fri Carroll things still going?

I'm not sure why'd you would have 8 pairs of shoes in your bag. I bring all my shoes listed to games, all I see you bring is maybe two pair in that tiny purse of yours. I also have three pair of lotto's but those are all from hs, not sure if they would fit anymore. Also have a pair of preds at home.

Kalman list yours..?

I'm wonder wtf you need that money pairs of shoes in general. Seriously, all you need is your regular boots, pair of studs. Simple. Shoes don't make you play any better...

Part of the reason that I own that many pairs is I am as rough on shoes as you are goalie gloves.. and I can't see throwing away something I spent $150-200 on. My old shoes aren't ruined, but seams give out, toes wear out, on my pair of old leather vapors the cleat plate is actually coming off.

I think part of the reason the vapors wear so hard is that they are so light and thin, but I couldn't tell ya for sure. I couldn't see going back to any shoe that is heavier than my vapors. Make my feet feel so liiight.

EDIT: You've never worn vapors have you? My god, they are amazing. I also don't own any studs ^_^

I've worn them, nike's are to wide for my foot though so gave them away. Also gave a pair to nemo. Think I have to start wearing Puma's or something, or some with the "inner sock" feel. I move around to much even in my copa's.

Know what you mean about saving shoes, I have an old "backup" pair of copa's with the side of the right toe seam blown out that I just can't part with yet.

Nike's are to wide..? wtf Out of all the shoes I've worn my vapors are the narrowest!!

Does not compute Sad

I don't know much about shoes but i could have sworn Nike's were usually considered too narrow...Perhaps I do not shop enough and should attend the local mall?

3 vapors
3 Adidas
1 Umbro Speciale
1 Puma V-Konstruct
1 Under Armour

Thats including Soft grounds, Turf, and Firm Grounds....And the list will probably be getting bigger.

I don't get why people need so many pairs of boots.

I have flats, turfs and two pairs of cleats...Which is still probably too many but supports any surface I might play on from gym floors to turf/indoor to outdoor.

Why Kalman or Bomber need 9+ pairs of cleats doesn't make sense!

tennis shoes for anything on gym floor, cleats for everything else

did you ever play year round with 2-4 practices/games a week powder? Heavy wear and tear is part of my reason.

I know bomber just likes to look pretty, and I'm guessing the same goes for Kalman Wink

I've never played year round, but have played for 6-9 months straight...I am hard on the toes of my shoes so like to have 2 active pairs of cleats...but when the toe wears out I usually don't use them any more...

I think you're definitely right about Kalman and bomber

Guys are allowed to have multiple shoes when it pertains to athletics. It's the guys that have more than one pair of high heels that frighten me. Seriously, if you want to get really fancy for a night out on the town, have your one pair of red high heels or whatever your color may be and let it rest. No sense having a whole closet full of drag when you only bust it out every other weekend to get away from the wife.

Makes no sense to me.
